Orlando's year-round heat and humidity make it one of the most mold-prone cities in the country. Mold doesn't always look like those obvious black spots you've seen online — often it's growing silently behind your walls, under your floors, or in your HVAC system while you have no idea it's there.
1. Musty or Earthy Odor
The most common first sign of hidden mold is a musty, earthy smell — especially in bathrooms, basements, or rooms that have experienced past water damage. If you notice this smell but can't see visible mold, call us. We use air quality testing to detect mold spores that aren't visible to the eye.
2. Water Stains on Walls or Ceilings
Brown or yellow water stains mean moisture has been present — and where there's moisture, mold is likely growing on the other side of that surface. Stains that come and go are especially concerning because they indicate an active leak.
3. Peeling or Bubbling Paint
Paint that's lifting off walls or ceilings indicates moisture behind the surface. In Florida's climate, this almost always means mold is growing on the wet surface beneath the paint.
4. Respiratory Issues at Home
If you or family members experience runny nose, sneezing, coughing, or worsening allergy symptoms specifically at home — and these improve when you leave — mold exposure is a likely cause. This is especially common with black mold (Stachybotrys).
5. Visible Dark Spots (Even Small Ones)
Don't wait for a massive mold colony. Small black, green, or gray spots in corners, on grout, behind furniture, or around window frames are early warning signs. Don't touch or disturb them — call us first.
6. Recent Water Damage History
Any home that experienced water damage — even if it was "cleaned up" — should be professionally inspected for mold 2–4 weeks later. Mold can grow deep inside wall cavities even when the surface appears dry.
7. High Indoor Humidity
If your home consistently feels humid, has condensation on windows, or your AC runs constantly but can't keep up — your indoor humidity may be above 60%, creating ideal mold conditions throughout the home.
What To Do If You Suspect Mold
Don't try to clean it yourself with bleach — this doesn't address mold in porous materials and releases spores into the air. Call us for a professional mold inspection. We hold FL Mold Remediator License #MRSR5370 and can identify, contain, and remove mold properly. Call 321-420-7274.
